Veteran guitarist Nguyen Le to perform in town

The French Institute in HCMC will host Hanoi Duo music show featuring popular Vietnamese French guitarist Nguyen Le and local composer Ngo Hong Quang at Idecaf in HCMC’s District 1 on March 1.

During his trip to Vietnam, Nguyen Le will introduce his new album Hanoi Duo together with local composer Ngo Hong Quang. The two have different music styles but the same aspiration to bring Vietnamese music to the world. Hanoi Duo is an album of folk and traditional songs and singing styles of Vietnam to honor the country’s stunning landscapes and typical cultural traits.

Spectators are expected to enjoy Nguyen Le’s compositions in the theme music of traditional instruments and Hong Quang’s creations inspired by folk songs of Tay ethnic minority people with a combination of electronic guitar performances by Nguyen Le and traditional music instruments by Ngo Hong Quang and invited artists percussionist Alex Tran, flutist Nguyen Hoang Anh, and zither player Nguyen Mai Le.

Nguyen Le is an international jazz artist with the acclaimed Django Reinhardt award. Nguyen Le is known for his fusion of jazz and folk music. Born into a Vietnamese family in France, Nguyen Le has been influenced by French culture with his strong and inspirational performance style combined with his aspiration of traditional Vietnamese music.

Nguyen Le has cooperated with many talented artists of Vietnam, including Huong Thanh, Tung Duong and Thanh Lam.

Over the years, Ngo Hong Quang with his unique dan nhi performance has attracted audiences not only in Vietnam but also in Thailand, South Korea and Europe. Quang also plays various traditional Vietnamese instruments at the Vietnam National Academy of Music and other mountainous areas around the country. Recently, he studied a contemporary composition in Den Haag Royal Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands to broaden his musical creation mindfulness.
