The Consulate General of India in cooperation with the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) commemorated the World Hindi Day on Wednesday. The event featured cultural performances, Indian cuisine and Indian film at the USSH.
The university has opened the department of Indian studies under the faculty of oriental studies since 2000 and Hindi is taught here as a subject for undergraduates, apart from other subjects such as Indian history, politics, economy, culture, society, and foreign policy. Over 300 students have studied Hindi at the department.
Since 2007, World Hindi Day has been held in Vietnam, with most of its celebrations taking place at the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and one at each of Tra Vinh University and An Giang University.
