Do Tran Khanh Ngan, a 23-year-old professional model from Dong Nai Province, was crowned Miss Tourism Vietnam 2017 on the coronation night at the HCMC Television (HTV) Theatre on Sunday.

Ngan won the hearts of judges and viewers for her beauty and communication skills in Vietnamese and English. The first runner-up was Nguyen Thi Thanh from the northern province of Bac Ninh and the second runner-up Nguyen Thi Lien Phuong from the Mekong Delta province of Long An, who are both professional models.

The Miss Tourism Vietnam contest was kicked off in January 2017. There were 17 beauties entering the final night to compete in ao dai, bikini, evening gown and eco-friendly costume challenges.

The three winners will represent Vietnam at Miss Tourism World, Miss Eco International and Miss Tourism Queen International.

Local and international judges of the pageant included Miss Tourism Queen International 2016 Anu Namshir, Miss Eco International 2016 Natalie Sanchez, Miss Tourism World 2015 Nuchnarin Sinlaparak, Miss Universe Thailand 2007 Farung Yuthithum, fashion designers Ngoc Anh and Thieu Vy, photographer Trinh Quoc Huy, and Mai Duy Bao, director of FTV, among others.

The Department of Performing Arts does not recognize Nguyen Thi Thanh as first runner-up because of her cosmetic surgery. Nguyen Dang Chuong, head of the department, said contestants at beauty contests in the country would be disqualified if they have undergone cosmetic surgery. Chuong added the Miss Tourism Vietnam 2017 organizing committee had broken the rules, so Nguyen Thi Thanh cannot join any international contests.

Dr. Amal Rezk, chairwoman of the Miss Eco International contest, told local media that the contest had no rule banning contestants with cosmetic surgery, so Nguyen Thi Thanh was still eligible.
