Earth Hour 2017 takes place in town

Around 1,000 students and two ambassadors of the Earth Hour 2017 campaign, singers Isaac and Phan Le Ai Phuong cycle on main streets in HCMC to call for residents to switch off lights and unnecessary electric appliances. Bicycle rides are expected to take place for two more weeks around the city. This year’s program has been jointly held by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth League, Saigon Co.op and Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper. It is expected that over 5,000 young people in the city will gather at the Youth Cultural House in District 1 in response to the campaign at 8:30 p.m. on March 25. A project on green tourism destinations will be carried out to introduce tourists, including foreign students in exchange programs, to ecological tourism sites in the city and other places, including tours of the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe canal. High school students will join activities to improve their awareness of environment protection and energy saving. The Earth Hour was first launched in Vietnam in 2009.
