Australian, Singaporean field hockey sides swing through Vietnam
Vietnam is getting ready for an Australian invasion by some of that nation’s top field hockey players.
From March 31 to April 7, Vietnamese and Australian teams will be facing off at fields around HCMC and Long An as the sport continues to grow its footprint in Vietnam.
Australia’s Men’s national team is ranked Number 1 in the world while Vietnam is ranked 85th in the world. Australian women are ranked 4th in the world while Vietnam is currently unranked. The Singapore Crescent Women’s Team will also participate.
“It would be a huge move up the learning curve for both the Vietnamese men and women hockey players to play the world best hockey teams,” said Vietnam Field Hockey President James Chew.
“Hockey Australia regards the tour to Vietnam by the country teams as a significant development opportunity for the sport in the region and looks to develop an ongoing relationship into the future,” said Australian representative Michael Nelson.
