PM visits Coastal Missile Brigade in Binh Thuan

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on April 19 visited Naval Region 2’s Coastal Missile Brigade in the south-central province of Binh Thuan, reports the Vietnam News Agency.

Set up in 2006, the Coastal Missile Brigade of Naval Region 2 is tasked with protecting the sea and island sovereignty and the southern continental shelf of Vietnam.

The brigade’s officers said it has taken measures to develop into a professional and modern brigade and that all officers and soldiers are ready to fulfill any assignments.

Vietnam, Cambodia strengthen drug control cooperation

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam held talks with his Cambodian counterpart Ke Kim Yan in Hanoi on April 19. The two governments agreed to strengthen cooperation in drug control, the Government news website reports.

The two sides will direct their agencies in the border localities to strengthen exchanges of information and experience in drug control. The Cambodian side asked Vietnam to speed up work on a community-based voluntary drug detoxification facility in Cambodia.

Kien Giang develops irrigation system

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has given approval in principle to phase one of the Cai Lon-Cai Be irrigation system worth over VND3 trillion. The project will help control salinity, cope with the existing conflict between agriculture and coastal aquaculture in Kien Giang, Hau Giang and Bac Lieu provinces in the Cai Lon-Cai Be basin, and develop sustainable fisheries in coastal Kien Giang Province.

Given climate change and rising sea levels, the system will help store fresh water for coastal areas to address water shortages in the dry season and prevent forest fires, and promoting sustainable socio-economic development, VietnamPlus reports.

Wartime bomb unearthed in Quang Tri

Sappers in the central province of Quang Tri unearthed a 240-kg bomb on April 19 while working on a project to expand the Lao Bao international border gate in Huong Hoa District. Found at the depth of six meters, the unexploded MK 82 bomb is 1.6 meters long and contains 80 kg of explosive, reports the Vietnam News Agency.

The bomb was reportedly dropped in Lao Bao by the U.S. army during the war. It was transported to an area designated for detonation of explosive devices found in the locality.

Vietnam Expo 2017 attracts over 500 exhibitors

With the theme of “Enhancing Regional and Global Economic Links,” the 27th Vietnam International Trade Fair (Vietnam Expo 2017) was opened on April 19 at the Hanoi International Exhibition. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh said the fair is an important trade promotion event.

The fair features around 600 booths of over 500 domestic and international exhibitors from 23 countries and territories. It lasts until this Saturday, the Vietnam News Agency reports.

FPT Software to employ 1,000 people

FPT Software has plans to recruit around 1,000 engineers to carry out its automotive technology solutions projects. They may have the opportunity to work in Japan, South Korea and European nations and earn up to US$2,000 a month.

The company has made some solutions on advanced driver assistance systems such as identifying road lanes, applying 360-degree cameras, and detecting obstructions, traffic lights and signs.
