Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of the movie “Kong: Skull Island” with some scenes shot in the central province of Quang Binh, is establishing a scholarship fund for Vietnamese students who have a profound passion for arts.

The Hollywood director, who has been named a tourism ambassador of Vietnam, told reporters at a press conference in HCMC on Tuesday that the financial source of the fund will be contributed from revenues of the Hollywood blockbuster Kong: Skull Island and from domestic and foreign investors.

The fund is aimed to provide two scholarships for Vietnamese students to study at an American university within four years, with each scholarship worth US$90,000 a year including tuition fee, books, stationery items, accommodation, and personal living expenses.

Favorite majors available for students consist of film, photography, graphic design, art history, acting, script-writing, dancing and fashion design.

The most important criteria to win the scholarship, according to the movie director, are the passion and potential in the art field. One of the two scholarships will be prioritized for female students in an effort to encourage them to develop their artistic ability.

The movie director hoped if things go well, the scholarship fund will be implemented next autumn. Besides, Vogt-Roberts showed his expectations to coordinate with some local universities to continue developing this fund.

As the tourism ambassador of Vietnam, Jordan Vogt-Roberts said he is trying to complete his mission of promoting the country’s spectacular landscapes and people to international tourists.
