Vietnam’s first Language Assessment Symposium was organized in HCMC on May 23 as an opportunity for leading British and Vietnamese experts on language testing and assessment to exchange information and catch up with new methods of teaching and learning English.

Organized by the British Council in partnership with Vietnam’s national foreign language project 2020 and Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Training Center in HCMC (SEAMEO RETRAC), the conference heard many presentations by speakers from 10 national language testing centers.

The presentations covered various topics including language assessment for primary learners, evaluation method of writing skill, and the use of teamwork to enhance ongoing assessment of English speaking skill.

Cherry Gough, director of the British Council Vietnam, said through the conference the British Government pledged to provide continued support for the Ministry of Education and Training’s targets to improve the teaching and learning of English in Vietnam. The proficiency of the English language will open up more opportunities for international education, better jobs and wide connection.
