Thai consulate holds cooking classes in June

The Royal Thai Consulate General in HCMC last Saturday teamed up with Le Méridien Saigon to run the first cooking class themed “Discovering Thai cuisine with Chef Kuan” at the Bamboo Chic restaurant of the hotel, as part of a series of Thai cooking classes to be offered every Saturday during this month.

The event is expected to give a rare opportunity for local gastronomers and international guests to savor authentic dishes of the Thai people prepared by Thai master chef Lai Kuan Geo and learn more about unique and colorful cultural traits of the country.

During the first session, Chef Kuan who has more than 28 years of experience in culinary practice, and many years as a regular contributor to popular TV cooking shows in Malaysia, instructed participants how to prepare Thailand’s famous dishes including Tom Yum Goong, Larb Ped (duck with North-Eastern style Thai salad), Prik Kaeng Moo Grob (crispy pork belly stir-fried with red chili paste) and sticky rice mixed with mango.

Ureerat Ratanaprukse, consul general of Thailand in HCMC, said the event is aimed at promoting and introducing Thai culinary culture to Vietnamese people, and those wishing to experience well-known Thai signature dishes.

Apart from enjoying a hands-on cooking experience with a free flow of wines, participants have a chance to win two return air tickets to Thailand by the budget carriers Nok Air.
