The U.S. Consulate General in HCMC last week organized a ceremony at the GEM Center to celebrate the 241st anniversary of the Independence of the United States (July 4, 1776-2017).

Speaking at the event, U.S. Consul General Mary Tarnowka hailed HCMC as a key driving force for economic growth and development in Vietnam.

In the field of education, the U.S. is a top choice of Vietnamese students, with more than 21,000 students enrolled, ranking sixth among the countries that have students in the U.S., she said.

Annual two-way trade last year amounted to nearly US$50 billion and the U.S. is now Vietnam’s biggest export market. In 2016, U.S. exports to Vietnam rose by 43%.  Meanwhile, the exchange of high-ranking visits between the two countries has helped promote understanding and ties between the U.S. and Vietnam, Tarnowka added.

She also showed her optimism about bilateral cooperation in various fields and believed that both sides could do better in the future from clean energy and infrastructure solutions to cooperation in humanitarian and disaster relief.
