TopArt, a fine arts training center for children, in collaboration with the UNESCO Center for Education and Culture (UNESCO-CEP), last week launched a painting contest to with the theme on Vietnamese traditional festivals.

Launched for the first time in 2014, the community-based contest is aimed to arouse the passion for painting among children as well as seek and foster talent for local fine arts.

This year’s contest themed “Colors of Vietnamese festivals” is expected to help young kids gain a deeper understanding on the country’s traditional festivals to nurture national pride and the love for their homeland.

The competition is expected to attract the participation of thousands of young contestants at kindergartens and primary schools in HCMC and Nha Trang City in the central province of Khanh Hoa from now until August 20. Then, the organizing committee will select the best 500 contestants to compete in the final round which is slated for October 8 at Aeon Mall Binh Tan in HCMC’s Binh Tan District.

The total prize value of the competition is VND604 million. The awards will include two first prizes worth VND30 million each, two second prizes worth VND17 million each, eight third prizes worth VND12 million each, 60 consolation prizes worth VND4.5 million, and other valuable prizes.

The judging panel of the contest comprises artists of the fine arts training center, experts of UNESCO-CEP and well-experienced lecturers from the painting faculties of universities nationwide.

After the contest, there will be an auction of award-winning paintings to raise funds for poor and underprivilleged children. The meaningful activity aims to appreciate children’s efforts and contributions as well as convey the humanitarian values to the community.
