Microsoft urges local firms to shift to cloud computing

Chi Thinh

HCMC - Local enterprises should embrace cloud computing technology as it can help them improve business efficiency, said CEO of Microsoft Vietnam Vu Minh Tri.

At a recent seminar on cloud computing services, Tri said the 4.0 Industrial Revolution would focus on data, cloud computing and data analysis.

Major tech firms such as Uber, Snap, Airbnb and Instagram have launched new services based on cloud computing to connect and share data. This technology is useful, especially for startups to market new services in a short time.

Vu Anh Tuan, general secretary of the HCMC Computer Association (HCA), said small and medium enterprises have begun to pay attention to cloud computing.

According to cloud computing services providers, the technology allows customers with limited IT resources to use an existing infrastructure on a pay-per-use plan to save on the cost of acquiring, managing and maintaining an IT infrastructure.

Technology Solutions, a large distributor of technological products, services and solutions, will coordinate with Microsoft to launch numerous services, and develop infrastructure at low costs.

At the seminar, Microsoft Vietnam introduced Technology Solutions as its cloud solution provider (CSP). Technology Solutions, a subsidiary of Tech Data Corporation, will provide services based on Microsoft technology through Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

Many enterprises have plans to distribute cloud computing and virtual private server services, instead of selling physical servers.

According to results of a survey of cloud computing use issued in early May by HCA, enterprises and individuals mostly use cloud computing for data storage.
