Vietnamese violinist ranks 8th at int’l violin competition

Young talent violinist Tran Le Quang Tien from the Vietnam National Academy of Music won the eighth place at the 10th international Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, said the Vietnam News Agency.

This year’s competition held from June 15 to 25 in Astana, Kazakhstan attracted the participation of 300 young violinists from many countries worldwide for many kinds of instruments including piano, violin and cello.

Tien convinced the judging panel for his outstanding performance of the piece “Bai ca chim ung” (Falcon Song) by musician Dam Linh to receive the Diploma Special Prize for The Best Interpretation of a Contemporary Work at the international competition.

Earlier, Tien has won many prestigious awards on the international arena, including first prize at the International Violin Competition in Thailand in 2014, the Toyota Scholarships in 2015 and the first prize of the junior group at the sixth International Violin Competition in Kazakhstan last year.

The 15-year-old Vietnamese boy started learning violin at the age of ten under the guidance of renowned violinist/ Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Tien has shown his artistic talent and is expected to become a violin prodigy in the years to come.
