Ocean Rescue Initiative contest launched

Le Anh

Seven System Vietnam JSC, the 7-Eleven franchisee in Vietnam, on Tuesday launched an “Ocean Rescue Initiative” contest in Hanoi in partnership with Triip.me, a Vietnamese startup project, and the Mekong Business Initiative (MBI), a development partnership between the Asian Development Bank and the Australian government.

The contest is aimed at calling for Vietnamese entrepreneurs and innovators to contribute ideas to minimize plastic waste pollution in the oceans.

The competition consists of two parts, with the first challenge requiring contestants to develop plastic recycling technology in a safe and convenient way for Vietnam and those countries with poor infrastructure for recycling. In the second round, contestants will have to design a water bottle at an affordable price and it can be reused to get water at water stations at 7-Eleven stores.

7-Eleven will consider signing contracts with individuals with the most feasible solution for plastic-bottle recycling. Meanwhile, Triip.me encourages hotels across the country to join the contest and replace plastic bottles.

The winner of the contest will have the opportunity to receive a prize totaling US$3,000.
