Deputy PM meets Malaysian counterpart

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh yesterday held talks with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the occasion of his official visit to Malaysia, the Government news website reports.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM appreciated the development of bilateral relation and cooperation between the two countries in politics, economic development, trade, security and human resources among others.

The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister spoke highly of the Vietnamese Deputy PM’s visit first ever made by a Vietnamese deputy prime minister in the past ten years.

The two sides agreed to foster cooperation in national defense and security, including organizing the first meeting on defense cooperation at ministerial level, step up the partnership between military forces, and establish naval cooperation among others.

Party chief meets Vietnamese ambassadors

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met heads of Vietnam’s overseas representative offices of the term 2017-2020 in Hanoi on July 12, the Government news website reports.

At the meeting, the ambassadors pledged to try their best to fulfill their assigned tasks and promote the cooperation between Vietnam and other countries.

Ministries hold meeting on prevention of animal-to-human diseases

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in coordination with the Ministry of Health and international organizations in Hanoi on July 12 held a meeting on strengthening the One Health Cooperation scheme in Vietnam, in line with the National One Health Strategic Plan (OHSP) for the 2016-2020 period, Nhan Dan newspaper reports.

The OHSP provides a five-year plan framework aiming at minimizing the impact on human health and other negative effects caused by diseases transmitted from animals to humans.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long pledged that the Ministry of Health will continue to implement more effective disease prevention activities and hoped that international organizations would continue their support to help Vietnam deal with dangerous diseases.

State Securities Commission has new chairman

Chairman of the Board of HCMC Stock Exchange (HOSE) Tran Van Dung was appointed as Chairman of the State Securities Commission from July 12, replacing Vu Bang who has just retired.

Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Xuan Ha presented a decision on appointment to Dung in Hanoi on Wednesday.

With 25-year experience in finance, banking and securities sector, Dung is the third chairman of the State Securities Commission. He has earlier worked for the State Bank of Vietnam, and Hanoi and HCMC stock exchanges.

International tourist arrivals to Dalat surge

Over 2.95 million tourists visited Dalat City of Lam Dong Province in the first half of 2017, up 13.4% against the year-ago period and reaching 50.5% of the plan, the provincial government announced yesterday.

In particular, international tourist arrivals to the city in the year’s first half surged by 44.3% year-on-year to over 204,000, while the number of domestic tourists grew by 12%. Strongest arrival growth came from Russia, China, Portugal and Malaysia with 145.6%, 79.8%, 65.3% and 56.7% respectively.

According to Nhan Dan newspaper, the city’s tourism revenue in January-June totaled VND5,317 billion (over US$234 million), up 13.4% year-on-year.
