Footwear enterprises accelerate production automation

HCMC – Many Vietnamese footwear businesses have begun to invest in machineries and modern technologies to automate their production, aiming at improving productivity and quality and save time.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 19th International Shoe & Leather Exhibition Vietnam in HCMC on Wednesday, Nguyen Duc Thuan, chairman of the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso), said the footwear industry is seeing drastic changes towards automation.

“Some footwear manufacturers have used robots that can do some simple processes like sewing, cutting and gluing,” Thuan said.

According to Thuan, the fourth industrial revolution has already begun in Vietnam and domestic firms need to change their mindset. Investment in automation is costly but essential as it helps reduce labor costs, improve product quality and ensure uniformity.

Speaking to the Daily, Van Thuy Hanh of Viet A Chau Investment and Development Corporation (VITACO) said the corporation has bought scanners and 3D printers to facilitate production of moulds.

With this investment, the company now can complete a product sample in less than one hour, instead of 10 days as earlier.

The 19th International Shoe & Leather Exhibition Vietnam jointly organized by Top Repute Co Ltd, Lefaso and Hien Dat Co Ltd is taking place from July 12 to 14 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in District 7, HCMC.

The event features 700 footwear manufacturers from Vietnam and 27 countries and territories from around the world such as Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Italy and India, showcasing leather shoes and bags, as well as equipment and materials.
