Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV), in collaboration with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO), has announced to organize the Toyota Concert 2017 in Hanoi, HCMC and the northern province of Vinh Phuc next month.

The 20th Toyota Concert will kick off at HCMC Opera House on August 16, at Vinh Phuc on August 19 and at Hanoi Opera House on August 25-26.

Do Thu Hoang, vice general director of Toyota Motor Vietnam, said in a statement released last week that all money raised from ticket sales will be donated to the Toyota Scholarship for Young Vietnamese Music Talents program which aims to help students to practice and perform with professional orchestras at big music events.

As of last year, the company has awarded 730 scholarships to excellent students of five music schools nationwide.

The annual concert will be performed by VNSO under the baton of Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji. For the first time, the concert will feature solo pianist Nguyen Viet Trung, who earned outstanding success at a young age such as first prize in the Emmy Alberg piano competition, second prize at the “Chopin for the Youngest” international competition in Antonin, and third prize at the international music festival in Glubczyce, Poland.

Honna Tetsuji, who serves as current music director and principal conductor of VNSO, has won many international awards and conducted numerous orchestras in Japan, Shanghai, Hungary, Prague, Amterdam, Milano, Salzburg and Finland.

Tetsuji was appointed as a permanent conductor of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra from 1995 to 2001 and principal conductor of the Japan Chamber Orchestra during the 1993 – 1997 period. From 1998 to 2001 he was permanent guest conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, and music director of the Orchestra Nipponica in 2003-2011, which mainly performs modern Japanese works.

In October 2011, VNSO made its first historic U.S. tour together with Tetsuji, giving concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Symphony Hall in Boston.

The Toyota Concert program is one of the social contribution activities which the company has teamed up with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra to implement annually in an effort to contribute to the development of Vietnamese culture and popular classical music. Held for the first time in 1998, the program has had 60 concert nights and attracted over 36,000 spectators and music lovers nationwide.
