Vietnamese students win medals at Int’l Biology Olympiad

The Ministry of Training and Education announced that Vietnamese students attending the 28th International Biology Olympiad in London from July 23-30 had brought glory to the country with one gold and two silver medals, the Government news site reports.

The gold medal went to Truong Dong Hung, a 12th grader from Hue National High School for the Gifted in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue. Meanwhile, Duong Tien Quang Huy, a 12th-grade student of Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa Province and Nguyen Phuong Thao, a 11th grader from the High School for Gifted Students of Hanoi University of Science under the Vietnam National University in Hanoi, bagged two silver medals.

This year’s competition attracted 245 contestants from 68 countries and territories. The Ministry of Education and Training is expected to welcome the Vietnamese team at Noi Bai International Airport on August 2, local media reports.

Recently, six Vietnamese students joining the 58th International Math Olympiad also brought home four gold, one silver and one bronze medal while the chemistry team won three golds and one silver and the physics team bagged four golds and one silver, marking a significant breakthrough in academic achievements of Vietnamese students and helping lift the country’s stature on the international arena.
