The movie “Toi thay hoa vang tren co xanh” (Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass) by Vietnamese American director Victor Vu will be screened in Japan on August 19 to introduce Vietnam’s culture and people to the Japanese audience, the Vietnam News Agency reports.

The film adapted from a novel of the same name by Vietnamese writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, a well-known author whose books are popular among young Vietnamese readers, depicts the childhood of poor kids in a small coastal village in the sunny and windy central region in the mid-1980s.

The award-winning movie, filmed in the central coast province of Phu Yen, tells a story about two young brothers – Thieu and Tuong who always share happy and sad stories in daily lives but unwittingly compete to win the heart of the same little girl.

With the touching theme on the innocence of kids in the poor central village and stunning and peaceful country landscapes shot in the land of Phu Yen, the movie has quickly captured the attention of local and international audiences at the premiere in October 2015 and won many prestigious awards at home and abroad.

The movie bagged the Golden Lotus award at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival and won the Best Feature Film award at the 2016 TIFF Kids International Film Festival as part of the world-renowned Toronto International Film Festival.

In addition, the movie was screened at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival in France and at the 2017 ASEAN Film Festival in Switzerland.
