Truong Tien Bridge spanning the Huong (Perfume) River will be renovated to allow visitors and pedestrians to walk along both sides of the bridge to have a panoramic view of the former imperial capital of Hue.

The iconic bridge will be covered by a new layer of asphalt, with the walkways to be paved with bricks. In addition, 10 balconies will be restored to make it convenient for tourists to view the city and pose for photos.

The half-hexagonal balconies are inspired by an old design of the bridge during the reign of King Bao Dai, the last king of feudal Vietnam.

The VND3.8 billion project is expected to be complete in October this year.

Constructed in 1897 and finished two years later during the reign of King Thanh Thai, the 400-meter bridge was designed by French architect Gustave Eiffel. In 1937, during the reign of Bao Dai, the corridors along both sides of the bridge were enlarged for pedestrians and bicyclists.

For Hue’s citizens, Truong Tien Bridge on the Huong River is a symbol of the romantic city.
