HCMC, Hanoi, Haiphong, Danang and Can Tho held artistic lighting shows on the evening of August 8 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Initiated by the Philippines as chairman of ASEAN 2017, the activity called ASEAN Landmarks Lighting took place simultaneously at 10 ASEAN member nations.

In Hanoi, tourists had the opportunity to admire lighting shows in front of August 19 Revolutionary Square, while in HCMC, the program was available at the Reunification Palace Hall, the HCMC Opera House, the HCMC Museum, and the Central Post Office.

The three remaining cities were expected to show short clips to promote the ASEAN community in parallel with artistic lighting shows on streets.

In addition, the ASEAN flag hoisting ceremony took place on the same day at Bach Dang Wharf Park in HCMC’s District 1.
