HANOI – There were 2,745 cases of dengue fever recorded in Hanoi within just one week, from 31 July to 6 August, bringing the total in the capital city this year to 11,751, with four of them killed, the Hanoi Department of Health reported.

To cope with the outbreak, the department has told districts to send out teams to kill mosquito larva. Each team consists of two or three people who are members of local mass organizations.

The teams will visit households, construction sites, factories and schools to check and kill mosquito larva in water tanks and any stagnant bodies of water. At the same time, they will raise public awareness of dengue fever prevention.

The city Department of Health will hold sanitization campaigns at places where dengue fever has been detected and in high-risk areas.

On 28 July, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien worked with the Hanoi People's Committee over preventive measures and treatment of patients in the city.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam called for campaigns to raise public awareness of the disease.
