Tourists buy food at a weekend bazaar in HCMC’s District 1 - PHOTOS: HOANG PHONG

Apart from sightseeing spots, HCMC has on offer many bustling and colorful venues for shopping, relaxation and dining services for tourists, especially those from abroad. Following are some destinations recommended for visitors during the weekend.

Outcash Farmers’ Market: 188/1 Nguyen Van Huong Street, Thao Dien Ward, District 2

Those interested in organic and nutritious food and products should head for the Farmers Market at the Saigon Outcast in HCMC’s District 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Sunday.

The market features nearly 50 stalls of local and foreign vendors selling organic products, homemade cakes, healthy snacks, detox packages, and natural honey among others.

Families and young people will have the opportunity to enjoy shopping and some live music performances during the event. Participants can pay an entry fee of VND20,000, inclusive of one bottle of water or Red Saigon Beer.

The Saigon Outcast, an open art and entertainment space built from huge containers in District 2, is located at 188/1 Nguyen Van Huong Street, Thao Dien Ward, District 2.

Hello Weekend Market: HCMC Youth Cultural House 4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street in District 1

Bazaars or flea markets stemming from Western countries have become an integral part of weekend entertainment activities in HCMC where tourists from different parts of the globe gather for shopping, relaxation and food, and explore the bustling sight of modern city nightlife.

Hello Weekend Market will make a comeback on two weekend days, August 12-13, at the HCMC Youth Cultural House in HCMC’s District 1, offering a great chance for shopaholics and fashion lovers to hunt for trendy clothes, footwear, bags, accessories and household decoration items at discounts from 10% to 50%. 

The event themed “There’s life outside” will feature some 100 booths selling fashion items of local and foreign brands, cosmetics, shoes and bags at discounted prices, apart from a photo booth and a food corner. Visitors to the event can enjoy free admission.

Nguyen Van Binh Book Street in Ben Nghe Ward, District 1

Nguyen Van Binh Book Street in downtown HCMC has become a rendezvous of bookworms who come to browse for new books or have a cup of coffee on the weekend. But this week visitors will have a chance to enjoy African-style art performances at 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 13 on the book street.

Participating artists will show their skills to play djembe D.FoLa drum, a popular musical instrument in Africa, in an effort to promote unique African cultural features to Vietnamese people.

The book street on Nguyen Van Binh in close proximity to two of HCMC’s landmarks, the Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral, was put into operation in January last year. Since then, the site has become increasingly popular among local youths, students, photographers and foreign tourists.

Institute of Cultural Exchanges with France (Idecaf): 28 Le Thanh Ton Street in District 1

To create moments of relaxation and bring smiles to children, parents can take their kids to Idecaf to watch a French family-themed comedy movie which will be screened at 3 p.m. this Saturday, August 12.

The 97-minute movie directed by Laurent Tirard depicts the family love and childhood innocence which is promising to revive the childhood memories of kids of all ages.
