Goethe Institute to screen German films in five cities

The eighth German Film Festival will kick off in Vietnam from September 6 to 16 with nine movies to be screened in Hanoi, Hue, Danang, Haiphong and HCMC, according to the Goethe Institute.

The movies 24 Weeks, Berlin Syndrome, The Lotzmann family at the barricades, Happy, Millennials, Tschick, Under Sandet, and Wild are among the newest and most popular German films.

With genres ranging from thriller to drama and comedy, the movies will be shown in the original German language with Vietnamese and English subtitles or voice-over.

The festival will be joined by Anne Zohra Berrached, the German director and screenwriter of the film “24 Weeks”, who will meet with domestic and foreign audiences following the screenings of this movie in Hanoi, HCMC and Danang.

Born in 1982 in East Germany, Berrached worked as drama teacher in London for two years after she acquired her degree in social education majoring in psychology in Frankfurt.

In 2009, she began to study film directing at the Film Academy, Baden-Württemberg. When she was in her third year, she completed her debut feature film “Two Mothers” which was premiered at the 63rd International Film Festival in Berlin in 2013.

Her second feature film 24 Weeks was screened at the 2016 international film festival Berlinale and has to date won 16 awards, including three awards for Best Director and the Silver Prize at the biggest German Film Award Lola.

In Hanoi, the films will be shown from September 6 to 12 at National Cinema Center, 87 Lang Ha Street, Ba Dinh District. In HCMC, screenings will take place from September 7 to 13 at Cinestar, 135 Hai Ba Trung Street, District 1 while Haiphong film fans can enjoy film screenings at Vincom Center, 1 Le Thanh Tong Street from September 7 to 15.

In Hue, they will be screened from September 8 to 15 at Dong Ba Cinema, 187 Tran Hung Dao Street. In Danang, movie lovers can drop at Le Do Cinema, 46 Tran Phu Street, Hai Chau District between September 9 and 16 to watch the films.
