HCMC to expand Nguyen Thi Dinh Street

HCMC – A section of Nguyen Thi Dinh Street from My Thuy intersection to Cat Lai Port in District 2 will be widened to 70-77 meters using VND1.4 trillion (US$61.59 million) from the State budget to ease chronic traffic congestion there, the HCMC Department of Transport said.

The project aimed at meeting demand for cargo transport to and from Cat Lai Port will require more than VND850 billion for site clearance alone.

The Department of Transport has asked relevant departments, agencies and districts for inputs on the project, which has been approved by the HCMC government.

The expansion of Nguyen Thi Dinh Street together with My Thuy intersection and Ring Road No. 2 will help ease traffic congestion on the roads to Cat Lai Port.

Traffic jams there are attributed to over 18,000 trucks going to and from the port a day, while Nguyen Thi Dinh Street is narrow, coupled with the construction of My Thuy intersection.

In related news, the city last month asked the Ministry of Transport to approve a three-level interchange project for An Phu intersection in District 2 including a tunnel and an overpass. The first phase of the project will need more than VND1 trillion for construction of a tunnel.
