Global chemical company BASF has funded a project to renovate a kindergarten and a primary school in Phung Hiep District in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang.

The project, co-sponsored by BASF and a group of companies and facilitated by Saigon Children’s Charity CIO, has helped renovate a total of five classrooms and a 239-square meter playground at Tan Long Kindergarten and Long Thanh 3 Primary School.

BASF said in a statement that the project had improved learning facilities as well as hygiene and safety conditions for some 140 students of the Tan Long and Long Thanh 3 schools, which are located in Long Phung and Long Truong 3 hamlets respectively.

“The schools were constructed more than 20 years ago. Prior to the renovation, the schools became heavily run down, and inadequate to maintain children’s health and safety standards,” BASF said.

Tanachart Ralsiripong, managing director of BASF Vietnam, said the company focused its corporate citizenship activities on providing quality education and believes every child deserves fair access to education.

“Providing sufficient study facilities and a quality learning environment is important for their future success and country development,” Tanachart said. “By supporting this meaningful project together with partners like Vietrust, we want to help address this issue and allow more children to benefit from learning opportunities.”

Over the past three years in partnership with the charity, BASF has renovated three schools in the Mekong Delta provinces of Tra Vinh and Hau Giang. The company has given scholarships to nearly 20 disadvantaged university students for their four years of study.

Since 2011, BASF, in collaboration with the HCMC Department of Education and Training, has organized interactive and fun-filled experiments at BASF Kids’ Lab for almost 3,000 primary students to understand the role of chemistry in daily life.
