Victory Taxi offers lower fares than Uber, Grab

Chi Thinh

HANOI – Thanh Do Transport and Service JSC, operator of Hanoi-based Victory Taxi brand, has gained permission to cut its off-peak fares to rates lower than those of ride-sharing services Uber and Grab.

A representative of the company told the Daily yesterday that the Hanoi Transport Department has accepted the new fare of Victory Taxi for VND7,500 per kilometer at off peak.

Earlier, the company has asked the department twice for permission to reduce its taxi fares and apply flexible rates like Uber and Grab. However, the department rejected its proposal, saying these fares are not in line with prevailing regulations.

The department said the company’s proposal to apply flexible fares makes it unviable to build a price plan. The department suggested the company refer to the Government’s Circular 25/2014/TT-BTC on common pricing methods for goods or services.

The company proposed a starting fare of VND20,000 for a maximum 2.5km, equivalent to VND8,500 per kilometer, and an off-peak fare of VND7,500 per kilometer.

As such, the off-peak fare of Victory Taxi is even lower than the average fare of other traditional taxi operators in Hanoi whose services are priced at VND13.600-15.100 per kilometer, and VND10,000 for starting fare.

Victory Taxi’s off-peak fare is also more competitive than those of Uber X and GrabCar whose services require passengers to pay VND8,000 and VND8,500 a kilometer respectively in the capital city.
