Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has given the green light to a project to organize the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad in 2018 (APhO 2018) in Vietnam with a hope to encourage the spirit of learning and teaching physics in schools and foster young talents in the field.

APhO 2018 is scheduled to take place in Hanoi from May 5 to 15 next year with the participation of about 30 teams from 30 countries and territories around the world, along with 60 scientific observers and 17 international guests.

The national steering committee for APhO 2018 will be headed by Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha while the Hanoi University of Science and Technology is responsible for joining forces with other universities and the Vietnam Physics Association to host the forthcoming international competition.

Recently, all five members of the Vietnamese team attending the 48th International Physics Olympiad held in Indonesia from July 16 to 24 had brought glory to the country with four gold and one silver, the highest-ever achievement. The noble record is considered a significant breakthrough in academic achievements of Vietnamese students, helping lift the country’s stature on the international arena.
