VN-Index barely goes down as bluechips tumble

HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange lost a fractional 0.01%, or 0.09 points, to close at 1,528.48 points today, January 7 as many bluechips tumbled.

The southern bourse saw 211 stocks winning and 247 others losing. There were more than 1,027 million shares worth some VND31.9 trillion changing hands, falling 23% in volume and 9.87% in value compared with the previous session.

More than 75.59 million shares worth over VND2.7 trillion were traded in block deals.

In the VN30 basket, the picture was somber as 21 stocks declined while only eight gained ground, making the VN30-Index lose 12.71 points.

The biggest decliners were lenders CTG and TPB and retailer VRE, with each losing 2.4%. Besides, real estate stocks VIC and NVL and insurer BVH dropped 2.2%, 2% and 1.1%, respectively.

HPG, SAB, GVR, VNM and FPT fell slightly.

POW was the biggest gainer in the basket, soaring 4.7% to VND20,150, followed by gas ticker GAS, which surged 3.7% to VND107,500. Lender BID rose 3.2% to VND39,200 and fuel distributor PLX rose 1.4% to VND56,300.

In the group of speculative stocks, real estate and construction stocks stole the limelight, with FLC, LCG, LDG, CII, QCG, NBB and VPH shooting up to the ceiling prices. In addition, HQC, SCR, DXG and HBC rose 2.1-4.3%.

VIX was the best performer among securities stocks as it soared 5.5% to VND34,600. Meanwhile, SSI, HCM, VND, VCI, CTS, FTS, TVS and TVB dipped into the red.

Steel stocks performed poorly, with HPG, HSG and NKG losing approximately 1%.

Similarly, the banking group saw more losers than winners. LPB, VCB and MBB rose 0.88-2.3%, while SSB, CTG, TPB, STB, EIB, VPB, ACB, MSB and SHB fell 1-3.4%.

Electricity firm POW took the lead in terms of liquidity with 32.88 million shares changing hands, followed by property developer FLC with 31.7 million shares.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index rose 1.85%, or 8.95 points, to end at 493.84 points. Gaining stocks outnumbered decliners by 159 to 85. There were over 143.9 million shares worth some VND4 trillion transacted.

In contrast to the VN30 basket, most stocks in the HNX30 basket gained ground, with 22 winners and only seven losing ones.

The biggest gainers were industrial development firm IDC and construction firm CEO, which surged 9.9% to VND78,000 and 7.1% to VND92,500, respectively.

Other major contributors included real estate developer DTD, construction firm LHC and infrastructure development company IDV, which rose 2-5.4%.

In the group of small and medium stocks, KLF, DL1, ACM, SD6 and SDT shot up to the ceiling prices. Besides, ART, TTH and LIG surged 3.5-6.5%.

KLF was the most actively traded stock on the northern market with 14.94 million shares changing hands, followed by PVS with 10.55 million shares.
