Vietnam to export mango to U.S.

The Saigon Times Daily

HCMC - The U.S. has officially opened the door for Vietnamese mangoes, the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington D.C. has said.

Dao Tran Nhan, Trade Minister Counselor and Chief Representative of the Vietnam Trade Office in the U.S., said the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved the import of mangoes from Vietnam.

According to the import license issued by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under USDA, the U.S will begin importing Vietnamese mangoes from December 29, 2017.

Fresh mango imports from Vietnam must be farmed, packaged, irradiated, and inspected at ports of entry in line with U.S. requirements.

The fruit must also be imported in commercial consignments accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by a national plant protection agency of Vietnam and an additional declaration stating that the consignment had been inspected and found free of Macrophoma mangiferae, beetles and other insects.

According to Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, this is one of the two countries’ commitments to promote imports and exports made during the U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November.
