Explosion kills two children in Bac Ninh

HCMC - Two children were killed and dozens of others were injured after an explosion occurred in a village in Yen Phong District, Bac Ninh Province in the early morning of January 3, according to local news reports.

The dead victims were a one-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl.

According to a local police officer, the explosion occurred at around 4:30 a.m. at a scrap warehouse in Quan Do Village. The explosion destroyed three nearby houses, buried many people who were sleeping, and partly damaged dozens of other homes.

Police came to the scene to rescue people still stuck under the debris and take injured people to hospital.

The explosion left a crater which is 20 meters long and four meters wide.

Luong Van Cong, a man who lives 600 meters from the scrap facility, was quoted by news website Dan Tri as saying that the explosion damaged the corrugated roofing sheets of his home and many bullet cases were found around the house.

“This is the largest explosion I’ve ever heard in my life,” he said.

Nghiem Xuan Vinh, whose home is 200 meters from the scene, said his home was badly damaged by the explosion, according to Dan Tri. The roof was totally destroyed why glass doors and furniture were broken.

Vinh said the warehouse is owned by some scrap dealers. They bought scrap ammunitions and stored them at the warehouse.

Local police are investigating the explosion.
