Vietnamese American film director Stephane Gauger dies aged 48

Vietnamese American film director Stephane Gauger, who had a strong devotion to Vietnam’s film industry, died at his private home in HCMC on the night of January 11 due to heart attack, reported local media.

His colleagues and friends were shocked by his sudden death as he looked physically fit at the 20th Vietnam Film Festival and the Autumn Meeting 2017 in the central city of Danang about a month ago.

Born in Saigon in 1970 to an American father, Gauger moved to the U.S. to settle down after 1975 and studied cinematography. He embraces a special love for his motherland in Vietnam and has returned to the country to carry out many film projects.

The ill-fated director gained popularity in Vietnam through some award-winning movies such as Cu va chim se se (Owl and the Sparrow) in 2007 and Yeu di dung so (Kiss and Spell) which hit local theaters in August last year.
