HCMC – The government of Danang City is in need of investment capital for three large infrastructure projects which will require a total of more than US$800 million.

Nguyen Huu Nhi, deputy head of the Danang Investment Promotion Agency, said Lien Chieu Port, a new railway station and Hoa Nhon solid waste treatment complex would be developed under public-private partnership. Lien Chieu Port and railway station projects would be financed by official development assistance (ODA).

Lien Chieu Port, which will cost an estimated US$65 million, will help ease the rising pressure on Tien Sa Port, the city’s only seaport at present. With two piers 600 meters long each, warehouses, container yard and office area, Lien Chieu Port would be able to receive ships of up to 50,000 DWT.

The new railway station will be located in Lien Chieu District to replace the old station in a crowded residential area. Its cost is projected at more than US$640 million.

According to the plan, capital mobilization would be finished in late 2019 and work would start on the project in early 2020. When the project is complete in 2025, it would be connected to Lien Chieu Port and Danang-Quang Ngai Expressway to enhance transport connectivity in the west of the city.

The third project in need of investment is Hoa Nhon solid waste treatment complex capitalized at US$97 million. Expected to be up and running in 2021, the 120-hectare facility could treat 1,500 tons of solid waste a day, replacing Khanh Son landfill which could be full in 2020.

The city’s leaders have met David Duong, CEO of Vietnam Waste Solutions Inc, to discuss an investment plan for the waste treatment complex.
