The third annual international food festival called “Taste of the World” will be opened at 6.30 p.m. tonight at An Hoi Sculpture Garden in Hoi An City in the central province of Quang Nam.

The festival lasting until March 17 will be attended by a dozen local and international chefs from Japan, China, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy among others.

Nguyen Van Son, vice chairman of Hoi An City, said there will be street carnival, traditional costume performance and art shows.

According to the organizing committee, international chefs will demonstrate their cooking skills and prepare for signature dishes of their country of origin using local ingredients while giving instructions on cooking techniques for local chefs.

Last year, Hoi An was hailed as the capital of Vietnamese cuisine by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies; therefore, the festival is envisaged to promote the tourism image of the ancient town to international gastronomers and speed up tourism growth.

Data from the city government indicates that the number of visitors to Hoi An leaped 21% year-on-year to around 3.2 million in 2017. This year, the city is pinning high hopes of wooing around 3.78 million visitors.
