HCMC – The VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange almost touched a new high of 1,200 points on April 2 as most large stocks and those in key sectors advanced.

The index surged 22.15 points, or 1.89%, versus last Friday at 1,196.61. There were 235.5 million shares worth VND7.4 trillion changing hands on the southern bourse, rising 15% and 20% respectively.

According to tinnhanhchungkhoan.vn, eight out of 10 leading stocks by market cap rallied, supporting the index.

VIC was the top contributor to the April 2 gains. The real estate developer has jumped 57% in less than two months and is now the largest company by market cap.

Notably, ROS plunged to the floor price before it closed at the upper limit of VND144,400 a share. At its annual general meeting on April 2, the construction company announced to pay a dividend of 20% and issue additional shares at the price far lower than the current market level.

Dairy giant VNM and brewery firm SAB were the only losers in this group, dipping 1.6% and 1% at VND199,700 and VND238,000 a share respectively.

Bank stocks continued to perform well, with VCB, BID and VPB adding 3.7% to 5.4% each. In contrast, HDB and EIB dropped slightly to VND45,600 and VND13,900 per share.

Among the speculative stocks, HAG led the market by liquidity with 22.7 million shares transacted but the real estate firm dropped to the floor price of VND6,150 a share. Its agricultural affiliate HNG lost 4.2% at VND8,480 a share with 10.7 million shares traded.

Many property firms rose sharply. FLC and SCR saw 10 million shares and 13 million shares traded respectively. Meanwhile, PDR, NBB and CII declined slightly.

The HNX-Index of the Hanoi Stock Exchange gained in the second straight session, surging 2.22% at 135.4 points. Trading volume and value jumped 14% and 35% against the previous session at 52 million shares and VND937.5 billion.

Lender SHB was the most actively traded stock, adding 5.4% at VND49,200 per share with matching volume of 14.7 million shares. Among brokerage firms, SHS added 3% at VND23,900 a share and MBS climbed 3.2% at VND19,200 per share.

Property firm CEO closed unchanged at VND14,000 a share with volume of 2.4 million shares while building material firm VCG fell 0.4% at VND23,300 per share. PVI, a leading insurance firm, also dipped 0.2% at VND40,300 per share.
