Watercraft to be inspected en masse after boat sinking in Can Gio

The Saigon Times Daily

HCMC – After a boat sank in the waters of Can Gio District, HCMC on Sunday, Vietnam Register has ordered that all watercraft nationwide be inspected to ensure safety.

Nguyen Vu Hai, deputy general director of Vietnam Register, issued an order on Monday to this effect, demanding that Vietnam Register Office No. 6 cooperate with other related agencies to investigate the cause of the boat sinking. They are also told to check all watercraft nationwide to ensure safety for people and properties, Nguoi Lao Dong reports.

In addition, they must inspect all passenger boats for their compliance with regulations on technical inspections.

Vietnam Register offices are required to intensively examine vessels, especially passenger ones, tankers, and those carrying hazardous cargo or liquefied gas. Cross-examinations must be applied to cruise ships, high-speed boats, vessels that offer overnight stay service or floating restaurants and hotels.

The offices are ordered to work with agencies under the Traffic Police Department and the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration on inspections.

Especially, they have to cooperate with provincial or municipal traffic safety agencies. Local authorities have to examine and keep track on boats which fail to undergo inspection in due time.

Those boats that are not inspected in due time will have their names published on the website of Vietnam Register so that local authorities can handle such cases.
