Tan Phuoc Hung Kindergarten sponsored by the Saigon Children’s Charity CIO (Saigonchildren) and Hong Kong donors was put into operation late last week after four months of construction, providing a new, safe and friendly learning environment for children in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang.

Tan Phuoc Hung Kindergarten accommodates around 50 children aged three to five in the province’s Phung Hiep District each year. The kindergarten is built to replace the old, crumbling facility that has degraded and become unsafe for the children, especially in the stormy season.

After a careful research, Saigonchildren, with its School Building Program, collaborated with the local authorities to build the new Tan Phuoc Hung Kindergarten. The project received more than US$42,000 in donations from Jardine Matheson Group companies in Vietnam including Pizza Hut, Guardian, Gammon and Schindler, and donors from Hong Kong.

A productive collaboration with the provincial government has ensured the project’s success and enabled 100% of donations to be spent on helping local children.

The new facility for Tan Phuoc Hung Kindergarten includes two classrooms of 86 square meters each, hygiene facilities, a playground of 200 square meters, a school gate and a hedge. All design and structure of the new kindergarten comply with standards set by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Saigonchildren was founded in 1992 with an aim to help disadvantaged Vietnamese children have access to adequate education and a fairer start in life. Its School Building Program has been running for more than 20 years and has delivered over 186 schools with 480 classrooms across the country.
