In this sixth edition, the marathon features five distances including Full Marathon (42 kilometers), Half Marathon (21 kilometers), 10 and 5 kilometers, and 1 kilometer for children under 10 years old.

According to the organizing board, the Full Marathon has drawn more than 900 participants while the Half Marathon, 10-kilometer and 1-kilomter race will see the competition of 1,700, 1,000 and 200 runners respectively. The 5-kilometer race has attracted the largest number of participants with 3,400.

Particularly, athletes from the Shonan International Marathon from Japan will be joining, and the two best Vietnamese marathoners (men’s and women’s categories) will get free entries to the Shonan International Marathon in Japan on December 12, 2018.

This year’s race, with the theme “Because I Love Danang,” will start from Bien Dong Park. The run routes, crossing Danang’s well known bridges like Tran Thi Ly, Thuan Phuoc, Dragon and Han River, will offer runners a chance to experience the beautiful coastline of the city.

Ahead of the event, US$10,000 and VND37 million has been raised for disabled people and underprivileged women and children in the city.

In addition, the organizers in collaboration with the municipal authorities and environmental organizations like Evergreen Labs and 7bridges organized a clean-up event on August 5, collecting 330 kilos of waste and four cubic meters of styrofoam boxes on Thuan Phuoc Bridge route and in Son Tra District.

A series of environmental protection activities will be held during the event, while souvenir and food stalls are opened to serve the participants and promote the culture of the city.

The Manulife Danang International Marathon is the first professional marathon in Vietnam certified by IAAF - AIMS (the International Association of Athletics Federations and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races).

Last year’s event attracted more than 5,700 athletes from 44 countries and territories, and more than US$21,000 was raised for handicapped people and orphans, victims of dioxin, disabled people and low-income families in the city.
