HCMC - The Netherlands education support center Nuffic Neso will step up promotion of the European country’s education in Vietnam through funding projects for universities and scholarships for students.
Malte Stokhof, new director of Nuffic Neso Vietnam, told the Daily last Friday when the organization introduced Dutch education that Holland had a budget of at least 10 million euro to fund projects of universities in Vietnam and other nations.
Stokhof said the funds for this year would go to projects in the fields of education, human resource development, water management, irrigation, music technology among others.
Stokhof pointed out feasibility as one of the criteria the Dutch organization would consider when assessing and choosing the projects.
He revealed a group of experts from Holland would come to visit colleges and universities in Vietnam to receive and take into account their proposals for financial assistance.
This was a good opportunity for colleges and universities in Vietnam to be able to get the funds for their projects in need of finance.
In addition to project sponsorship, scholarships will also be provided for Vietnamese candidates to attend courses in different fields in the European country. All these courses are run in English, Stokhof said.
Nuffic Neso Vietnam is working with its Dutch partners to provide five scholarships worth 120,000 euros for local tertiary and post-graduate students in the 2009-2010 school year under the Orange Tulip Scholarship program.
There are courses on marketing and food technology as well as Master of Business Administration courses, which Stokhof said would help Vietnamese candidates approach Dutch education.
Nuffic Neso Vietnam will present the Dutch education programs and the scholarships available for Vietnamese students at Booth A1 at the International Educational and Career Expo, scheduled to take place in HCMC’s District 7 from February 26 to 28.
The major event will showcase a variety of courses at colleges, universities and vocational schools in Vietnam and foreign nations, including Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Stokhof estimated more than 1,000 Vietnamese students now studied in Holland. Last year, around 170 Vietnamese students went to the European country, and 70 of them were scholarship recipients.
