The donation day was an annual event to mark the 13th anniversary of The Saigon Times Daily and the 17th anniversary of its sister publication, The Saigon Times Weekly. The Blood Donation Day was organized in collaboration with the Red Cross Society.
For the second time, APCO Worldwide Vietnam, a provider of public affairs and strategic communications, was the main sponsor for the event, along with the co-sponsorship of PepsiCo Vietnam, Prudential Vietnam and Unilever Vietnam.
Pham Phuong Thao, chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Council, and her husband Chau Minh Ti also came to donate blood. This was the 20th time the chairwoman has given blood.
She said, “This is a good deed and I want to help people.”
TRG International’s founder and CEO Rick Yvanovich also came and responded to the newspapers’ initiative.
“I read the Saigon Times Daily and got the information about this event. It is good to have Saigon Times as a regular organizer for blood donation,” he said.
This year’s event also welcomed blood donors from the diplomatic corps., including the consuls general of Canada, Cuba, France, the Philippines and the U.S. and their staff.
In particular, there were some 30 passers-by joining the goodwill event.
This annual activity of The Saigon Times is a response to the severe shortage of blood at many hospitals in the city, said the organizer.
