HCMC – Opportunities abound for U.S. firms to engage in infrastructure projects here in Vietnam because the local economy has strong demand for infrastructure development to fuel growth.

According to an infrastructure dialogue luncheon organized in HCMC last Friday for members of the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), Vietnamese enterprises, HCMC and neighboring provinces, Vietnam’s steady economic growth over the years had led to urgent needs for infrastructure upgrade and development.

USABC president Alexander Feldman, who co-led the council delegation comprising senior executives from some 10 leading firms, said members of the council had shown keen interest in infrastructure development projects here.

He said USABC had worked with representatives of the Vietnamese Government, ministries and provinces in the last months to seek opportunities for cooperation with Vietnam to upgrade and expand infrastructure.

The council has more than 100 members who are major companies with strong financial competence and advanced technologies to take part in infrastructure projects in the country, he said.

Besides road and bridge projects, the council’s members are willing to venture into projects such as airport, port, power, public health, hospital, education, waste treatment and information technology.

The infrastructure dialogue in HCMC, which followed the business mission in Hanoi, was a direct response from the council and its member companies to the call for leaders of Vietnam to adopt better ways of developing infrastructure.

Participants had the opportunity to engage with relevant authorities in HCMC and surrounding provinces, representatives from the central government agencies, international aid agencies, contractors, funds banks and other key players.
