HCMC – The southern province of Dong Nai plans to develop high-tech agriculture on 60,000 hectares, around 20% of its total farming land.
High technology is essential for an advanced agricultural sector to turn out high-quality farm produce and bring about high incomes for farmers, said Pham Van Sang, director of the provincial Department of Science and Technology.
Dong Nai Food Industry Corp. (Dofico) is developing the Dofico industrial and agricultural zone project with a closed production system. The zone covers nearly 2,200 hectares in Thong Nhat and Xuan Loc districts.
The project will require total capital of VND3 trillion, with VND2.2 trillion going to infrastructure construction and VND800 billion to site clearance. Dofico has finished site clearance of 1,200 hectares so far.
The department is seeking investors for the project before construction.
The province also broke ground for a biotechnology application center in Cam My District last month with total capital of nearly VND1 trillion.
