HCMC – TH Milk Joint Stock Co. in Nghe An Province has just received 1,600 dairy cows transported by sea from New Zealand.
The shipment is part of the total 24,000 dairy cows imported for a concentrated dairy cow-breeding project in Nghia Dan District. The US$350 million project aims to develop an international standard dairy industry based on advanced Israeli technology and management.
TH has plans to import the second cow shipment in April. The enterprise will develop 45,000 cows, including 20,000 dairy cows to provide for a milk-processing factory with a daily capacity of 500 tons next year.
The project, the biggest ever of its kind in Vietnam, is expected to meet some 30% of the country’s milk demand, including fresh milk. Local authorities sent a delegation of officials to Israel last October to study the dairy cow-breeding model in the country.
Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Co. (Vinamilk) has earlier invested in a cow breeding farm and a milk processing plant worth VND100 billion in the province.
