More enjoy lower shrimp tariffs

HCMC – The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has announced the results of the fourth administrative review of anti-dumping tariffs imposed on Vietnamese shrimp exporters, many of whom are enjoying the reduced tariff of 2.89%, down from 4.57% in 2008.

Truong Dinh Hoe, secretary general of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), told the Daily that according to the DOC’s latest announcement, 29 seafood companies had their tariffs cut from 4.57% to 2.89%.

Vị trí đặt quảng cáoMeanwhile, Minh Phu Corp., one of the two mandatory respondents, had its tariff raised from 0.43% to 3.27%, and another, Nha Trang Seafoods Co. had its tariff cut from 4.57% to 2.50%.

Ngo Van Ich, director of Nha Trang Seafoods Co., who received the lowest rate at 2.50%, said, “The result has made us feel more confident. We hope the anti-dumping tariff will be cut to 0% in the future.”

The DOC announced the results after the review between February 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009. According to VASEP, the final determination will come out in 90 days and after that all Vietnamese shrimp exporters will have to abide by the rates.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, total turnover of seafood products in Jan-Feb was US$628 million, up 41.33% year-on-year. Shrimp and catfish are the leading export products.
