Market drops below 400 points

HCMC – The local market fell back slightly in the first day of the week on Tuesday as profit-taking pressure surged after three consecutive rising weeks, sending the VN-Index down a mild 2.01 points, or 0.5%, against the previous session to close at 399.73.
Listed firms fare poorly

HCMC – Up to 60% of listed firms on both stock markets saw their performances shrinking in 2011, and some 85 firms were mired in the red last year, according to the State Securities Commission (SSC).
VN-Index calculation method to be revised

HCMC – The Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HOSE) will revise the method of calculating the VN-Index along with the launch of the VN30 Index from this week to better reflect market developments, said Tran Dac Sinh, chairman of HOSE.

HCMC – The local market continued its bullish run on Thursday as a majority of stocks hit their ceiling prices on strong demand, lifting the VN-Index up a hefty 10.94 points, or 2.8%, against the previous session to close at 401.61.

HCMC – The local market made a slight gain in the third straight rising session on Wednesday given sudden late rebound of some large caps. The VN-Index rose 2.7 points, or 0.7%, from the session earlier to close at 390.67.

Market soars sharply after Tet

HCMC – The local market on Monday staged an impressive gain on the first trading day after the long Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, as a large number of stocks hit their ceiling prices, bringing the VN-Index up a hefty 11.94 points, or 3.2%, against the session earlier to close at 384.94.
Uptrend expected to continue after Tet
