Foreign yachts to cruise through Binh Thuan

By Dao Loan - The Saigon Times Daily

HCMC – Foreign and local visitors will have the opportunity to see spectacular performances by yacht teams from more than 20 countries in the central coast province of Binh Thuan in December.

This will be one of the main activities within the first international sailing festival there from December 8 to 11.

In HCMC the organizing committee began on Wednesday to promote the forthcoming event which will take the yachts from Ham Tien and Mui Ne to Khe Ga Cape and Hoa Thang beach in the province.

Along with the event will be conferences on how to promote the country’s tourism and yacht sectors, and festivities like music, art and cultural performances. The organizing committee has invited some foreign music bands there to entertain guests.

Lam Quang Hien, director of the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the event would attract visitors to Binh Thuan and introduce a new entertainment product to tourists. The organizer expects representatives of around 150 yachting companies to come.

“We want yachting companies to do business in Binh Thuan and thus prop up the development of the yachting sector in a move to turn the province into a yacht center,” he said.

Binh Thuan is collaborating with agencies and companies such as the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Vietnam Airlines and XT Asia INC to host the upcoming international sailing festival.

Hien said the province would make the yachting festival a yearly festival if the first proved to be a success.

Statistics from the department show the province has welcomed around 220,000 travelers this month, taking to nearly 1.7 million the number of tourists in the first eight months of the year. Tourism revenue is projected at nearly VND1.55 trillion in January-August, up over 31.3% year-on-year.
