Tran Viet Van wins People & Planet contest

With Khoanh khac quyet dinh (Decisive Moment) photo journalist of Lao Dong newspaper Tran Viet Van won first prize worth A$1,300 at the People & Planet International Photography Competition in Australia, reports Thanh Nien.
The photo featured monks of the Kompong Chray (Hang) Pagoda of Khmer people in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh.
The second prize worth A$350 was awarded to Jashim Salam (Bangladesh) with the photo The Golden Fibre and the Diary Cover Prize worth A$350 was granted to Kazi Riasat Alve (Bangladesh) for the work All-Rounder.
The competition which was open to amateur and professional photographers from around the world attracted 4,000 photos from photographers from 82 nations. The competition also aimed to select 54 photos to be published in the 2012 People & Planet: Social Justice & Environment Diary & Calendar, which will raise money for a group of Australian charities.
The calendar will feature extraordinary images of people and places around the world. Each beautiful image is accompanied by its own, unique short story about one of the planet’s social or environmental challenges.
Decisive Moment has received many worldwide awards for Van, who is one of Vietnam’s top photographers.
