Online short film festival YxineFF 2011 for independent film-makers from all over the world is launched on website www.yxineff.com with the slogan ‘Sharing. Love. Cinema’. This year’s second edition is themed ‘Belief’.

Entries for the contest are classified into three categories: Competition - new films made by Vietnamese-only on the theme “Belief” lasting a maximum of 15 minutes; Panorama:  30 minute films comprising movies shot in the last three years; In Focus: a 15 minute movie section for worldwide entrants.

YxineFF accepts entries for all three categories from all genres including fiction, documentary and animation until August 28. The films are selected based on their ‘touching, creative and humane’ qualities.

From the opening night on September 2 until the close on December 16, YxineFF will screen from two to four new films per week. From the premiere screening on YxineFF any movie can be viewed until the end of the festival. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in HCMC on December 31.

The jury consists of director Bui Thac Chuyen, actress Hong Anh, cinematographer Nguyen Nam, producer Jenni Trang Le and novelist Nguyen Truong Quy. The two main awards of YxineFF are Golden Heart voted by the jury and Red Heart voted by the audience. Each includes a statuette, certificate and VND20 million for the winner’s next short or feature film project. The jury also selects five individual awards including best director, screenplay, cinematography, editing, and acting. Each individual award includes a certificate and VND5 million.

There is also a New Heart award given to the most creative movie and funded by Lequyduong Co. Ltd. This award includes a statuette, certificate and VND10 million.

Green Heart is given to the best documentary that reflects the topic of Sustainable Development by EcoAid. This is a new award of YxineFF 2011 with a separate jury including director of EcoAid Manfred Kratter, documentary filmmaker Nguyen Trinh Thi and environmentalist Dang Huong Giang-director of the project ‘Action for the City’. This award includes a statuette, certificate and VND10 million.
