Domestic films attract movie-goers

Four Vietnamese movies which were featured during Tet (Lunar New Year) brought cinemas in HCMC a larger number of customers. Megastar Cineplex, a joint venture between Envoy Media Partners Ltd. of British Virgin Islands and Phuong Nam Cultural Corp., attracted over 160,000 guests over the first five days of Tet. Galaxy Studio Joint Stock Company served over 120,000 fans and four cinemas of Saigon Movies Media Joint Stock Co.
elcomed 180,000. Megastar’s turnover was over VND12 billion while Saigon Movies Media earned VND9 billion.
According to cinemas, Cong Chua Teen va Ngu Ho Tuong (Teen Princess and the Five Brave Generals Teaser) is the best-selling movie. Nhung Nu Hon Ruc Ro (Radiant Kisses) is next and third position belongs to Khi Yeu Dung Quay Dau Lai (Never Look Back When Falling in Love) followed by Nhat Ky Bach Tuyet (Snow White’s Diary).
Megastar said they would open three more cinemas for three-dimension (3D) screenings in Hanoi and HCMC. Galaxy, in the middle of this month, will open two 3D cinemas in HCMC, one at Galaxy Nguyen Du (116 Nguyen Du Street, District 1) and one at Galaxy Nguyen Trai (230 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1). Le Hoang Minh, marketing supervisor of Galaxy, told the Daily, “We are dealing with Megastar to screen the 3D movie Alice in Wonderland which is the first 3D movie shown at Galaxy’s Cineplex.”
Tran Nhut Anh Loan, managing director of Saigon Movies Media, told the Daily, “We will build three new cinemas in District 1 and one in District 3.” Minh of Galaxy also said they would open a new cinema in April.
