Music and dance students do Autumn gala

HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will hold Autumn Melodies 2010 – the annual gala of music and dance – at HCMC Opera House on August 19, 20.
Since 2005, the annual Autumn Melodies has gathered the best young Vietnamese talents from schools here and abroad. This year 17 young artists will perform - some for the first time at the concert.
Pianists Le Thu Quynh and Le Thanh Thao from U.S. and Poland are grandchildren of famous composer Van Cao, the composer of the Vietnam national anthem. Dancers Tran Hoang Yen, Doan Vu Minh Tu and Dinh Thi Diem Trang have just graduated from HCMC Dance School. Pianist Tran Yen Nhi is from HCMC Music College of HCMC. Oboist Dang Phu Vinh is doing a postgraduate program in art at the University of West Virginia (US). Le Thu Quynh and Tran Yen Nhi, at the age of 14, are the two youngest artists in this year’s event.
The first night of the program puts on a performance of famous classical works by Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Beethoven in part one, and classical and contemporary ballet in part two. The second night of Autumn Melodies is also divided into two parts, with three concertos by Kabalevsky, Haydn and Nguyen Manh Duy Linh in part one, and seven excerpts from world famous operas by Pergolesi, Puccini, Delibes, Verdi, and Bellini in part two.
